It’s been a while since I went out for a blast on my old Alpinestars, so this weekend I dusted it off, pumped up the tyres and went for a little spin down the Taff Trail.
I feel really lucky to live close to the trail which is National Route 8 of the Sustrans network of cycle routes across the UK. Take it north and you can go all the way to Anglesey via Brecon and Snowdonia. Head south and you have mainly a traffic-free cruise all the way to Cardiff Bay. I’m also really close to Route 4 – travel west to St Davids in Pembrokeshire and east all the way to London. Route 8 to Anglesey is definitely on the cards for a future trip.
So in comparison today was just a short blast down to a village called Tongwynlais on the outskirts of Cardiff. It’s fast becoming a little bike hub with a new cycle shop having opened there recently and even better – a new bike cafe!
Plan2Ride is just off the main high street and is nestled in a converted garage with a great space to have a quick coffee. They’ve got a repair / servicing shop onsite and sell a number of spare parts and accessories. There’s also a little yard where you can hang your bike off the wall while you take a seat in the sun and munch on one of their home made cakes.
